Our editorial process
Last updated: October 2026
CareerPro UK publishes free guides and CPD courses for international medical graduates (IMGs) applying for, or working in, NHS jobs. Doctors use them to make real career decisions, so we hold them to clear standards. This page explains how we research, check and update everything we publish.
Where our information comes from
Our guides and courses are written from official and primary sources, including:
- the General Medical Council (GMC), including Good Medical Practice and its ethical guidance
- NHS England, NHS Employers, NHS Jobs and published NHS person specifications
- national recruitment person specifications and real NHS job adverts
- NICE guidance, the Resuscitation Council UK and the Royal Colleges
- the BMA, UK legislation and GOV.UK guidance
Where a guide relies on a specific rule, figure or requirement, we link to the source so you can check it yourself.
Built on real application experience
Our advice on supporting statements, person specifications and shortlisting comes from reviewing and rewriting more than 3,000 NHS job applications from IMG doctors. We use that experience to explain what shortlisters look for and where applications most often go wrong. Worked examples are illustrative and anonymised; they never contain real patient or client details.
How we check and update content
- Before publishing: every guide and course is checked against its sources for accuracy, and written in plain UK English.
- Review dates: each guide and course shows when it was last reviewed. We review content at least every six months.
- When rules change: if the GMC, NHS recruitment rules, national guidance or the law changes, we update the affected pages as soon as we can.
- Clinical content: courses that cover clinical topics follow current UK guidelines and do not replace hands-on accredited courses such as ALS or ATLS.
Use of digital tools
We use digital tools, including AI, to help draft, structure and format content. Nothing is published until it has been checked against official sources and reviewed for accuracy and safety.
Independence
CareerPro UK is an independent provider. We are not affiliated with, or endorsed by, the GMC, the NHS, NICE or any Royal College. Our courses are not accredited, and our certificates confirm completion of self-directed learning. We do not accept payment to recommend employers, products or services.
Limits of our guidance
Our content is general career and educational information. It is not legal, immigration or clinical advice for an individual situation. Recruitment rules vary between employers and change over time, so always check the current job advert, person specification and official guidance before you apply.
